A special friend sent me a text yesterday, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. We were talking about how to handle a particular setback, and this was her response:
BLEW. MY. MIND.
AND … you’re wondering why, because it’s such a simple statement, and you learned that back in 2nd grade science class, so … what’s the big deal?
What is a wave of energy?
The technical definition of a wave is: a disturbance that transfers energy from one point to another, without transferring matter.
Back when I was teaching kindergarten, a kid would ask how (ocean) waves work, and I was faced with explaining that physics phenomenon to a 5-year-old! I referenced the wave they had seen and experienced at sporting events. During a “stadium wave,” the people in their seats stand up and sit down, but the people don’t exchange seats; they stay in their assigned spot. Their energy is transferred around the stadium.
And that disturbance? It’s (literally) the driving force that propels energy of any type to continue. And, because energy always moves forward, so should we.
The moment I read her text, I was INSPIRED. It was a WOW moment.
I instinctively, immediately felt reassured that there was no other direction this disturbance in my life would or COULD take. Bham! Mind blown.
Energy always moves forward. And so do we. One step at a time, one meal at a time, one decision at a time. If you are feeling discouraged about your progress, remember the waves. Some are big waves, some are small, but ALL of them are energy moving forward.
